Weapons in Demon's Souls, like in real life, are used to defend one's self and inflict damage upon others. A total of 18 weapon categories exist in-game, further split into 78 individual weapons (80 in the remake) with their own stats and attributes. While weapon choice is very important to your build, players can equip up to 4 at once (2 per hand), allowing one account for many scenarios in combat.
- See Combat for advice, whether you're struggling or wish to start the game with an edge.
- See Boss Soul Weapons for special equipment forged only by using specific Demon's Souls.
- See Upgrades for information on empowering weapons through crafting.
- See Shields for a list of available shields.
- See Armor for a list of all available armor sets.
How should I choose a weapon in Demon's Souls?
Players create builds around specific weapons that have good movesets, deal significant damage, or are easily obtained. Some players choose weapons for their cosmetic appearance, but in most cases it is advisable to refer to the scaling and upgrading path of weapons to determine if the output is beneficial to the character in PVE, PVP or both. The following categories of weapons have details on their base damage, and all individual pages feature upgrade charts.
What are Boss Soul Weapons?
Boss Soul Weapons are special equipment forged by combining a unique Demon's Souls (dropped by Bosses) with weapons at the proper upgrade level. Certain Demon's Souls can be used for Weapons, Spells and Miracles, so make sure you get the one you want most! Else you'll have to wait for NG+ to get another shot.
Weapon Categories

Small and fast weapons with high attack speeds and high critical damage featuring a horizontal slash and pierce moveset.

With fairly balanced stats and access to both normal and thrusting attacks, Straight Swords are considered reliable starting weapons for many.

Capable of inflicting a large amount of damage but are slow, making the player vulnerable to enemy attacks.

Very Large Swords
Capable of inflicting massive damage in lieu of mobility, making the user very susceptible to punishment.

Curved Swords
Balanced between moderate damage and high mobility, curved swords feature arcing attacks.

Thrusting Swords
Specialized in piercing attacks and are best used to "counter" or follow-up on an enemy's attack.

Axes
Short-ranged weapons that provide wide arcs of attacks - typically a heavier weapon class.

Large Axes
Similar to Very Large Swords, they deal massive damage at the cost of mobility, leaving users wide open to attacks.

Hammers
Delivers strong blunt attacks that are best used against armored enemies.

Large Hammers
The longer-ranged, heavier and slower siblings to Hammers. Best used against armored enemies.

Fist Weapons
Despite their minimal range, they provide fast, rapid attacks that can quickly execute enemies.

Spears
Provides decent damage at a favorable range, but can easily be parried by enemies.

Polearms
Can deal high damage to multiple targets from mid to long-range.

Bows
Best used to deal with single targets from a long distance, allowing the player to perform aimed shots.

Crossbows
Deals more damage than Bows, but are slow to reload and are difficult to aim.

Like in real life we use weapons to defend ourselves and inflict damage upon others
Whether weapons use Sharp or Hardstone seems to depend on their damage types. Slashing/Piercing use Sharpstone, and Normal/Blunt use Hardstone.

for any player who wants to get overpowered early here's a trick let Ostrava die to the hollows he will drop a key the key unlocks a huge twin door protected by a red eyed knight. kill the knight and unlock the door in the room lies demombrandt and a guy wear the best armor in the game. hit him a enough times to Agro him go far enough to the point wear he goes want back to the room. headbutt him off the inside of the tower to get his amour. go back to the room and take demombrandt. this may take several tries keep in mind that if Furniture is in his way he will attack and one shot you so break everything along the path to get to the Tower also keep in mind that demonbrandt scales with the characters tendency (stronger with white) . congratulations you are now overpowered
