Pickaxe is a Hammer Weapon in Demon's Souls and Demon's Souls Remake. Hammer can inflict single powerful strikes against hostile characters, but they are rather slow. Hammers are effective against heavily armored enemies as well as destroying shields, breaking guards, and depleting the enemy's stamina.

Any reason at all to use this over the War Pick? They appear to identical in every way except the War Pick weighs half as much. Seems as if the only benefits of the pickaxe are lower cost and earlier availability. Otherwise, War Pick is just better.

Bought two of these at the start of the second archstone and dual wielded them for the rest of the game. tons of fun if you mix up light and heavy attacks together.

Slap some magic damage on it and most of Stonefang tunnel is a breeze. Great choice for when you need pierce but don't like spears.
