Quality Upgrades is a type of Upgrade path in Demon's Souls and Demon's Souls Remake. Upgrade paths allow the player to ascend their weapons and shields to a specific path that grants unique buffs and effects.
Quality Upgrades Information
Quality Upgrades can be performed by Blacksmith Boldwin. This upgrade path can be applied to the majority of the Weapons in the game and it balances out the STR and DEX bonuses. Listed below the table are the following Stats that scales per level for the Quality upgrade path.
Note : Weapons upgraded to this path can still be buffed with Light Weapon and Cursed Weapon as well as Consumable buffs like Pine Resin.

Quality Upgrades Requirements
This upgrade path requires the Clearstone material and can be upgraded from +1 to a max level of +5. Each weapon that can be upgraded to the Quality path requires a certain amount of Clearstone. Listed below are the variations of the material and its location, as well as the compatible weapons for the Quality upgrade path.
Shard of Clearstone
- Dropped by Imperial Spies in the Inner Ward.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard in The Tunnel City. From the start point, you start through a tunnel, there is a Scale Miner on your right and a Crystal Lizard a little further.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard in The Tunnel City. From the archstone. go right along the tunnel. Once you reach the end, turn right, go through the narrow passage. You will have to start dropping from scaffolding to scaffolding. On the third one, turn to your right and drop on the narrow wooden beam. Go across it and enter the cave. At the end of it, you will find two Crystal Lizards.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard in The Tunnel City. After the archstone, go left. cross the platform at the upper level, and go through a passage. The Lizard is hiding behind a pile of debris on the left.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard in The Tunnel City. Take the moving platform and venture to the lower level. You will find 2 Crystal Lizards in this room, and they will lead you towards their nest.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard in The Tunnel City. There is one after the 3 Rock Worms, just before reaching the Filthy Man.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard in The Tunnel City. In the lava area, near the exit passage towards the boss. There are 2 Crystal Lizards in the room behind the one with a Large Bearbug.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard in The Tunnel City. Just before you jump down on the 3 Rock Worms, you can reach another Crystal Lizard by a ladder. It is located on an upper wooden plank.
- Can be bought from the Filthy Man for 500 souls each in The Tunnel City.

Quality Upgrades Compatible Weapons
This page does not says that quality upgrades can be applied only to +3 weapons and can be performed by both blacksmiths.
