Summon Range Calculator in Demon's Souls and Demon's Souls Remake is used to determine if players can connect with each other in Online play. Players can imput the host level into the calculator to determine the range of levels of players who can enter the host's game. In Demon's Souls Remake players using the Blue Eye Stone and Red Eye Stone can use passwords to connect with each other, regardless of Soul Level.

Soul-Level Based Matchmaking
Multiplayer matchmaking is based around Soul Level. The level range is determined from the host perspective, meaning that all calculations are based on the Host player level.
Input your Soul Level into the calculator and you'll know the Soul Level of players that can join your game and the Soul Level of games that you can join.

- The Summon Range Calculation depends on the type of summon. The Host must be in Human form.
- All Equations are based on the Host Player Soul level

During the Old Monk Boss fight, players can be summoned to fight as a Black Phantom against the host (They can be randomly summoned by using any of the three Summoning Stones, but their normal Equations will be ignored). This type of summon uses a special equation resulting in the lower-level limit being as low as -40 and the upper-level limit being as high as +10. |

The Black Eye Stone calculation is accurate for the original, but for anyone who still doesn't know, the remake widened the range to be:
Lower Limit = X - (12 + 0.1x) , Upper Limit = X - (2 + 0.1x)
The upper limit is increased in order to allow more matchmaking, and so that people can invade others who are the same level or lower instead of just higher level individuals (fighting someone in human form whilst you are in soul form AND lower level seems to be a little too unbalanced... especially if they summon others)
The Old Monk, I am uncertain about because I feel as though I have invaded players more than 10 levels lower than me, but it could just be due to them having a terrible build.
