Moon Upgrades Compatible Weapons

Weapons with innate magic scaling are pretty much always worse than ones of the same class upraded with Moon/Crescent. But for the best damage it's most effective to use a physical upgrade path so you can use buff spells.

This is incorrect the moon shade stone is this one and this is for the crescent upgrade path

Why can't I do this with my winged spear? Is it because it's a regular +4 already? I have 5 moon shards
I think that for a dex/mag build is still convenient this path if you want a low level strenght based weapon as support (like a mace or an axe) rather than fully upgrading it raw and applying buff.
Maybe there's a break even at a certain level of magic so that the buff is more powerfull then the added damage and the scaling from the upgrade, but it should be tested.
