Hardstone Chunk (or Chunk of Hardstone) is an Upgrade Material in Demon's Souls and Demon's Souls Remake. Upgrade Materials are items that are used to strengthen the statistical value and to increase the effect of a certain piece of equipment.
Hard ore. Enhances straight swords, axes, hammers, and so on.
A basic ore that evenly increases the power of a weapon. Weapons can be strengthened by hardstones up to a maximum of level 10.
Hardstone Chunk Location:
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard, before the fight with the Tower Knight, there is a staircase on the right, the Crystal Lizard can be found upstairs.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard. There is one inside the prison where Biorr, of the Twin Fangs is being held. You must have acquired the Iron Ring of Keys to access the prison.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard, after the cutscene where the Fat Official closes the door, turn right. You can find one hiding between the columns.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard. Behind the 3 Boletaria Soldiers wielding crossbows at the start of the area.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard. Hiding behind the planks, halfway the right alleyway.
- Dropped by Flame Sword Scale Miners
- Can be looted off a corpse after defeating a Fat Official past some attacking dogs. Video Location: Shown in our walkthrough video at 10:20. Click here to watch it
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard. There's one Crystal Lizard on the left side of the corridor, just before reaching the room where you fight the Dragon God.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizards. From the archstone. go right along the tunnel. Once you reach the end, turn right, go through the narrow passage. You will have to start dropping from scaffolding to scaffolding. On the third one, turn to your right and drop on the narrow wooden beam. Go across it and enter the cave. At the end of it, you will find two Crystal Lizards.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard. After the archstone, go left. cross the platform at the upper level, and go through a passage. The Lizard is hiding behind a pile of debris on the left.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizards. Take the moving platform and venture to the lower level. You will find 2 Crystal Lizards in this room, and they will lead you towards their nest.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizards. There is one after the 3 Rock Worms, just before reaching the Filthy Man.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizards. In the lava area, near the exit passage towards the boss. There are 2 Crystal Lizards in the room behind the one with a Large Bearbug.
- Dropped by Crystal Lizard. Just before you jump down on the 3 Rock Worms, you can reach another Crystal Lizard by a ladder. It is located on an upper wooden plank.
- Dropped by Flame Sword Scale Miners.
- Can be looted off a corpse. Past three Rock Worms. The body is at the end of the wooden platform.

The Lizard before Tower Knight is not correct. It only drops Large Sharpstone Shard and Large Hardstone Shard

The video for scale miner's drop of hardstone chunk in stonefang tunnel is not accurate. It shows the chunk being looted off of a corpse.

The lizard up the stairs in Inner Ward can drop sharpstone chunks as well as hardstone chunks so if anyone is only getting sharpstone from that and thinks this page might be inaccurate I can confirm it can drop both.
