Blacksmith Boldwin is an NPC and merchant in Demon's Souls and Demon's Souls Remake. NPCs are the various characters that are encountered by the player throughout their journey. NPCs provide information, others are quest givers, while some are categorized as Merchants and/or Blacksmiths whom you can trade with or request for certain services.
He is the first blacksmith encountered by the player. He will be the only source of weapon and armor repairs until the player reaches Blacksmith Ed.
He sells items that will help the player early on; however, he's outmatched by vendors found later. As with all merchants, he sells his wares in exchange for souls.
Blacksmith Boldwin Information
- He can help you upgrade weapons with Hardstone, Sharpstone and etc.
- He can also repair any damaged equipment in exchange for souls.
- When killed, he will drop Hands of God.

Not a bad deal, eh? - Perhaps you've already heard, but there's another blacksmith at the enterance of Stonefang mine.
He's an eccentric old man, but he knows his trade well.
He's the only sane one left in a town of soul-starved men. - If you do meet him… Yeah… well, forget it, that stubborn old n'er do well will just ignore you.
There aren't enough blacksmiths in this temple to handle all the work.
Only certain ores can be used to forge weapons, but you'll just have to make do.
And be thankful that I'm still of good health.

- Well' old Ed's still up to his old strange ways, is he?

AnonymousThis guy is unsettling because he acts a lot more "natural" than most Fromsoft NPCs.
If you leave mid conversation he gets angry, and rips you for it again when you come back. In the other games the dialogue would have just reset.

Found an interesting bug today on the PS5 version (most recent update): it seems that if you go to Boldwin for equipment repairs and have the EXACT amount of souls required to "repair all" of your gear, no more, no less, you will get the "Insufficient Souls" message instead of the expected repairs. Idk what makes this happen or if it applies to Ed as well, but I've tried everything I can think of to remedy it and in the end, the only thing that fixed it was increasing the amount of souls on hand so that I no longer had the exact amount required. Weird...
