Magic Sword "Makoto" is a Katana Weapon in Demon's Souls and Demon's Souls RemakeKatanas specializes in mid-range combat, are capable of inflicting slash and thrust attacks, and can also apply the Bleed negative status effect against hostile characters.

A cursed katana that has appeared in folklore through the ages. Named for Makoto the giant, who lived in a distant land.
Countless, unique teeth have been carved into its blade. These teeth ravage the flesh, never to heal again. Cursed weapons, like the Makoto, are said to devour the wielder's essence and rob their warmth. Innumerable warriors continue to be taken by the Makoto's allure nevertheless.

Magic Sword "Makoto" Notes and Tips

  • Can be upgraded using Colorless Demon's Soul
  • Drains 1% Max HP per second from user
  • The Magic Sword "Makoto" is a unique katana that you are asked to retrieve by Satsuki. It is a cursed katana and will drain 1% of your life every two seconds when you have it out. The health drain can be offset by wearing a Regenerator's Ring, the Adjudicator's Shield, or a Blessed Weapon.
  • The sword can also be used as a tool to activate the Atk Up effect of the Clever Rat's Ring and the Morion Blade when health goes below 30%. Note that the first HP drain happens the moment Makoto is equipped, so the process can be sped up by repeatedly switching between Makoto and any other weapon.
  • The Magic Sword "Makoto" is a good starting sword but tends to be weaker once you reach later gameplay due to not having any added parameters. After a few new games, you may want to consider switching to a custom Uchigatana of choice or to the Hiltless because of its added parameters. However, Makoto is still useful for its 10 damage / second bleed (at +5) and slightly increased range.
  • Despite its name, Magic Sword "Makoto" does not deal magic damage, only physical damage (slashing/piercing)
  • Magic Sword "Makoto" will entirely drain the life of the player. If Second Chance is active and all health is lost from the player due to the sword, the character will be revived.

The description names a "Makoto The Giant" Maybe if the 6th archstone (the cut Giant Realm) wasn't cut we might have actually seen whoever that was

Theory crafting a build, and Magic Sword Makoto looks absolutely nasty on a hyper mode build paired with Clever Rat's Ring and Dull Rat's Ring with an off-hand Morion Blade. Select Temple Knight as your class and get access to regeneration miracle so you can cast it once your health is at the 30% threshold for more survivability. If you are optimizing your build you can cap it at Level 30 and all you need to get to is base stats for Makoto and the Morion blade if you want to use that. Cap your Vigor at 30 and boom, disgustingly powerful mid-game build. The damage without the rings and Morion Blade alone is nasty, with it active you will one-shot everything. Will keep you posted when I do a run of this, but this is the strongest base stat build I can think of.

Something to note. While using this sword and regenerators ring in human form you do actually lose health still. But in soul form you do not. After beating a boss I discovered this, as I went to grab a drink from downstairs. I came back and my health was draining.

I just started using this sword and when I pair it with the Regenerator's Ring it counters the negative health tick of the sword. Just throwing that out there if anyone wanted to use it without the down side. You will have to sacrifice a ring slot though.

This thing just stunlocked King Allant on NG+2, doing 950 dmg with 5 attacks. Managed to proc bleed aswell. DeS may have many weak boss/unique weapons but Makoto with low requirements and 0 scaling is strong!

Insane weapon for low lvl invading.
I use Makoto and Northern Regalia on a lvl 45 and 65. Damage is insane.

I already got this sword in PWWT. Came back in PWWT (fractured) to get the coin and there is an item on the spire again?

I don't have a way to get it back to PWWT so I won't know if it disappears or gives me another sword

This sword is super powerful for new game and can 1 to 2 shot most mobs and can just shred bosses. The lack of parameter bonuses lets you focus of health, endurance, and/or magic without having to worry about it crippling your potential damage output. I hardly ever see the bleed because of how much damage it does. The health drain can be countered by the Regeneration miracle.

On the weapons page, the link to this page has the " " around the word Makoto. That's why it doesn't work. Please fix this, thanks.
